The creative birthing of Transcendence came to me shortly after the tragedy of 911. I felt much anguish and fear. What might have been even more insidious was an underlying sense of helplessness. And as a people, the American spirit seemed broken.

Transcendence takes this feeling of brokenness represented in a female human form and combines that with a hope and determination for the future.

One of our great American symbols is that of the eagle. As a bird of prey, it most certainly can take care of itself – but the eagle is also known for its keen eye. To me in this sensing, it represents both protection and vision.

Even though she felt broken, there was a spirit deep within her that was so strong. She would not only survive, but in her own way she would gather this negative energy of fear and anger – and rather than allowing it to destroy her, actually use it as thrust to propel her to even greater heights.

Transcendence becomes this eagle being that is capable of soaring above this tragedy and into the beauty of a new way of thinking – a new way of approaching life.
