This bronze, crystal and light box creation I have named Freedom was inspired by a captivating experience I had during a showing in New Orleans. One sculpture was that of a nude
woman in the child pose yoga position. A woman approached me and said to she was from and still living in Egypt. She had just viewed this particular sculpture piece and expressed excitement at the feeling she had while viewing it.

To me the sculpture was of a woman in a yoga position, that of the “child pose.” But because it was the same as the prayer position of the main religion in her country it evoked strong emotions. She explained it represented a personal freedom that was hard for most women in her land to even imagine.

Something like this is totally forbidden ... a woman nude in the prayer position would be seen as evil and if attempted could result in almost unthinkable consequences. This experience touched me deeply and made me think of this simple sculpture in a new way.

This was an incredibly moving experience for me. I have total artistic freedom. It is a joy to not only express my work freely, but also share this expression with others. This beautiful and courageous woman is a magnificent example of my desire and hope to trigger something deep in themselves, creating a spark or an ember that can ignite and/or fan the flames of freedom.
